Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day! Hope everyone has had a fun and safe weekend. Thank you to all the military past and present who served to protect this country! Also want to thank the past and present Fire/Police/Ems personal for all they do to keep us safe! Regardless of how they served we should remember all the fallen who gave their life to protect the citizens of this great nation.

My Origami Owl Necklaces

Most people have heard/own/seen origami owl but I wanted to share with you my pieces. The first necklace has charms that represent my life. The little girl for my daughter; the maltese cross for my firefighter husband; the girl dog in memory of Hailey; the artist palette and scissors for my love of arts & crafts; the W for our family name; and lastly the shamrock for various reasons. They are all in a large locket on a long chain. I chose the cross dangle to show its importance in all the little pieces of my life. The second necklace was created just for fun to represent my love for the New York Yankees. It is a small locket on a small station chain. I purchased all of my items through Lindsey an Origami Owl independent designer. Go check it out here and design your own living locket!

Kiwi Coaster

This cute little pattern is inspired by Repeat Crafter Me's Fruit Coasters. If you haven't checked out her site you are missing out! She has tons of cute FREE patterns. Anyways, I thought I would come up with a kiwi pattern to go with the strawberry. It is super easy and I love how they go together!

Kiwi Pattern:

Worsted Weight Yarn
5 mm crochet hook (H)
Tapestry Needle

Notes: I used cotton yarn in cream, green, and tan. The black seeds are in acrylic.

Starting with cream yarn
Round 1: Magic Ring, Ch. 2, 12 Dc in ring, join to 1st Dc, tighten ring
Change to green yarn
Round 2: Ch. 2, 2 Dc in each st around, join
Round 3: Ch.2, (2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next) Repeat around, join
Change to tan yarn
Round 4: Ch.1, Sc in each st around, join
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Using black yarn embroider/stitch around in between first and second row to create the seeds.  Kind of like a whip stitch. If you are unsure use the picture as a guide.

You can find the strawberry and watermelon pattern here

I hope you enjoy the pattern!

For now I am still going to use the blogger format so everything on the site will stay the same. Next, I am aware that google friend connect/ blog reader is no longer going to be available starting July 1st. I am looking into different readers, rss feeds, etc. but not sure what step I want to take. If you guys have a favorite way to follow blogs just let me know.

At the moment I am trying to finish some orders and grow my etsy shop but I promise I have a free crochet pattern coming in the next month! Make sure you keep checking back!
